Shoulder Post-Op

The shoulder girdle is made up of several articulating joints, which are connected and influence each other’s motion. These joints work in synchrony to allow the many complex movements the shoulder can perform – not surprisingly the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body. A reduction in this mobility caused by shoulder injuries can present as sudden stiffness, instability and/or intolerable pain.

Shoulder surgery requires careful post-operative rehabilitation, which is often best done slowly, to allow healing and time for the swelling to reduce. Rehabilitation includes treatment to the site of the operation, and work to other body areas, which improves the biomechanics of the entire shoulder girdle.
